Israelis Outraged Over Kosher Slaughter Being Forbidden in Denmark

Israeli politicians and religious figures strongly criticized Denmark’s decision to ban kosher slaughter. Chief Rabbi Lau: “We demand the cancellation of this decision that harms the Jewish religion.” Religious Affairs Minister Bennett: “We will look at ways to assist the Jews of Denmark as soon as possible.”

Officials in the Israeli political and religious establishment criticized strongly the decision of the Danish government to ban kosher slaughter within the country, a regulation which is expected to come into force at the beginning of next week. “European anti-semitism reveals its true face,” Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Eli Ben Dahan stated.

The Deputy Minister called on the Danish Ambassador to Israel to prevent the implementation of the decision and explained, “We will not go through this in silence.” Israeli Religious Affairs Minister Naftali Bennett added, “We will look at ways to assist the Jews of Denmark as soon as possible.”

“This decision is not beneficial to the animals, the Jewish tradition and human rights,” Bennett added. Bennett instructed his staff to follow the kosher slaughtering issue in Denmark and prepare solutions for the crisis, as well as to assist the Danish Jewish community in all ways possible.

Chief Rabbi David Lau stated, “Kosher slaughtering is the most humane of the existing methods and prevents the beats from suffering. I will speak with the Danish Ambassador in Israel and with Danish officials, in order to demand the cancellation of this decision that harms the Jewish religion and the Jews of Denmark.”
